Porsche Boxster Valve Cover Gasket Replacement Dubai
Oil around the cylinder-head cover, a burning-oil smell or oil reaching the spark-plug wells? We identify the leaking seal, reseal the correct cover and check the surrounding ignition and breather components before handover.
One-bank planning estimates start around AED 1,735 including 5% VAT. The final cost depends on the Boxster generation, sealing method, access and whether one or both banks need work.

What does a Boxster valve cover leak repair cost?
These are research-based planning estimates for Dubai, not fixed AMF Auto Services prices. We confirm the engine, leak source, sealing method and parts before issuing the workshop quotation.
| Repair | Estimated fitted total | Typical coverage |
|---|---|---|
| One-bank cover reseal or gasket replacement | AED 1,735–4,305 | One confirmed leaking bank, normal access, specified sealant or gasket for that engine, routine sealing parts and final leak checks. |
| One bank plus spark-plug recess or tube seals | AED 2,205–3,675 | Cover reseal plus relevant plug-well sealing parts and cleanup where oil has reached the ignition area. |
| Both banks or high-access later-model work | AED 4,935–7,980 | Two-bank work or a more labour-intensive application. Final cost depends on engine family and components removed for access. |
Normally included: agreed gasket or approved sealing material, routine O-rings or sealing hardware listed in the quote, normal removal and refitting, accessible surface cleaning and a post-repair leak check.
Quoted separately when needed: ignition coils, spark plugs, damaged covers, camshaft-control seals, crankcase ventilation faults, oil service, exhaust hardware, broken fasteners, extensive degreasing or another oil-leak source.
Time to allow: many straightforward one-bank repairs fit within one working day once parts are available. Both-bank work, difficult access, curing time for the specified sealant or additional repairs can require 1–2 working days.
Typical Boxster valve cover jobs
These examples explain how generation and added sealing work change the bill. They are budgeting scenarios, not records of completed customer repairs or fixed offers.
986 or early 987 one-bank reseal
AED 1,735–2,890
Estimated total including 5% VAT
For a confirmed leak at one cam or cylinder-head cover where the application uses a sealant-based joint rather than a simple perimeter gasket.
Parts and materials: AED 250–550
Labour: AED 1,400–2,200
5% VAT: AED 85–140
Includes: specified sealing material, routine sealing parts listed in the quote, normal access and final leak check.
Excludes: plug-tube seals, ignition parts, damaged covers and separate breather faults.
Planning time: usually one working day.
Early flat-six with plug-well oil
AED 2,205–3,675
Estimated total including 5% VAT
For a cover leak plus confirmed spark-plug recess or tube sealing work on the same bank.
Parts and materials: AED 400–800
Labour: AED 1,700–2,700
5% VAT: AED 105–175
Includes: cover reseal, agreed plug-well sealing parts, normal cleanup and ignition-area inspection.
Excludes: coils, spark plugs, cracked tubes or an unrelated oil leak.
Planning time: around one working day after parts arrive.
Both banks or later-model access
AED 4,935–7,980
Estimated total including 5% VAT
For two confirmed leaking covers or a later application where access and related sealing parts make the work significantly more involved.
Parts and materials: AED 900–1,600
Labour: AED 3,800–6,000
5% VAT: AED 235–380
Includes: quoted seals or gaskets for both banks, normal access work and final leak checks.
Excludes: damaged covers, exhaust repairs, breather system work and ignition parts.
Planning time: allow 1–2 working days.
Do not apply one generation’s example to another. The 986, 987, 981 and 718 use different engine families and sealing arrangements, so the VIN and installed engine determine the actual quotation.
What a valve cover leak can look like
The first sign is often oil seepage rather than a major puddle. Where the oil appears helps narrow the repair, but the source still needs to be confirmed before parts are ordered.
- Burning-oil smell
- Oil reaching hot exhaust or engine surfaces can create a sharp smell after driving and may produce light smoke.
- Oil around the cover edge
- Fresh wetness at the joint can point to the cover seal, but oil running down from another point can imitate it.
- Oil in a spark-plug well
- Plug-recess or tube seals may be involved. Oil in the well can contaminate a coil boot and contribute to a misfire.
- Repeated oil top-ups
- A visible external leak should be corrected before low oil creates a lubrication problem. The leak rate matters more than the size of one parking-space stain.
Stop safely for an oil-pressure warning, rapid oil loss, heavy smoke or oil reaching very hot exhaust parts. Switch off and arrange assistance rather than continuing to drive.

Not every Boxster uses a simple rubber valve cover gasket
The search term is convenient, but the actual repair changes by engine. On some earlier M96 and M97 flat-six applications, the cam or cylinder-head cover forms part of the camshaft bearing arrangement and the perimeter joint is resealed with specified sealing compound rather than a conventional removable gasket.
That makes cleanliness, correct support and the engine-specific procedure especially important. The spark-plug recesses, oil-suction or tandem-pump seals and nearby control-valve seals can also be separate leak points.
Later Boxster engines use different cover and gasket arrangements. The workshop should not order a generic “Boxster valve cover gasket” until the VIN, engine family and leaking bank are confirmed.
Cover seal, plug tube or another oil leak?
Oil around the ignition area does not automatically mean the cover joint itself has failed. The exact path of fresh oil matters.
On relevant early cars, separate spark-plug tubes and O-rings can leak into or around the plug wells. That repair can be much smaller than removing and resealing the cylinder-head cover. See our Boxster spark plug tube replacement page for that specific service.
Oil can also travel from crankcase ventilation components, camshaft-related seals, the oil filler arrangement or another engine joint. If the source is elsewhere, we quote that repair instead of replacing a dry cover seal.

How the cover is resealed
The exact procedure depends on the engine, but the essentials are the same: identify the source, use the correct sealing method, protect the engine from contamination and check the repair before release.
- 01
Confirm the source
Inspect the fresh oil path, the affected bank, plug wells and nearby sealing points. Cleaning or extended leak tracing is quoted first when needed.
- 02
Prepare the engine
Remove only the components required for access. On applications where the cover forms part of the camshaft support arrangement, the engine-specific locking and support procedure is followed.
- 03
Seal the cover
Clean the mating surfaces carefully and fit the specified gasket, O-rings or approved sealant for that engine. Required single-use hardware is renewed where applicable.
- 04
Refit and verify
Refit the ignition and access components, restore the correct oil level if disturbed, then check for fresh leakage and normal engine operation.
Related work is added only when justified
Oil-soaked ignition parts
Oil in a plug well does not automatically mean every coil and spark plug needs replacement. We check their condition and operation first. A damaged coil boot, fouled plug or persistent misfire is quoted as separate ignition work.
Crankcase ventilation faults
Abnormal crankcase pressure can worsen oil leakage. If the air-oil separator or another ventilation component shows relevant symptoms, that fault is priced separately rather than hidden inside the cover-reseal estimate.
Damaged cover or sealing surface
A cracked cover, damaged thread or compromised mating surface can prevent a lasting seal. Reusing a damaged component just to hold the original estimate risks a repeat leak.
Access hardware and exhaust work
Some later applications need more surrounding components removed. Corroded or damaged exhaust fasteners, brackets and single-use sealing parts can add time and materials. The quote is updated before extra work continues.

What you should know before approving the repair
Ask which bank is leaking, what sealing method that engine uses and which parts are included. A clear quote should distinguish the cover joint from plug-tube seals and other nearby leak sources.
For a wider leak that does not originate at the valve or cam cover, use our Porsche oil leak repair service. That page covers other gasket, seal and housing faults without forcing every oil leak into this service.
If both banks are dry after cleaning and inspection, a valve cover gasket replacement is not the right repair. We would rather identify the actual source than replace parts because the symptom sounds familiar.

VIN or chassis number, model year, mileage, whether oil is visible on the left or right side, any burning smell or smoke, and whether oil has reached a spark-plug well. A clear photo of the fresh leak can help with the initial discussion.
Book the repair in Al Quoz 4
PorscheGarage.ae operates through AMF Auto Services LLC in Al Quoz 4, Dubai. The workshop handles Porsche maintenance, oil-leak repairs and engine sealing work with a written quotation before repair begins.
Free pickup and delivery are available for workshop enquiries. Tell us if there is heavy smoke, rapid oil loss or an oil-pressure warning so the car is collected instead of driven.
The 12-month parts-and-labour warranty policy explains eligibility, parts coverage and exclusions. The selected seal, gasket or sealing material is identified on the job documentation.
Workshop hours: Monday–Saturday, 9:00 AM–7:00 PM. Sunday closed. Call +971 56 464 6081.
Do not clean away all the evidence
If the leak is fresh and safe to photograph, take a clear picture before washing the engine. Oil-trail location can help the workshop plan the first inspection.
Do not add stop-leak products or overfill the engine to compensate for a leak. Check the oil level using the procedure for your model and arrange repair if the loss continues.
Boxster valve cover gasket questions
The quickest way to get a useful answer is to send the VIN, mileage and where you see or smell oil. We can then check the engine-specific sealing arrangement and parts availability.
How much does a Porsche Boxster valve cover gasket replacement cost in Dubai?
For planning, a one-bank repair can range from about AED 1,735 to AED 4,305 including 5% VAT, depending on the generation, access and sealing method. Both-bank or more labour-intensive later-model work can be higher. These are researched estimates, not fixed workshop prices. The written quote follows leak-source and VIN confirmation.
Does every Boxster actually have a valve cover gasket?
No. The customer-facing term covers several different sealing arrangements. On some earlier M96 and M97 flat-six engines, the cam or cylinder-head cover joint is sealed with specified sealing compound rather than a simple removable perimeter gasket. Later engines use different cover and gasket arrangements. The repair must be matched to the exact engine.
Can oil in the spark-plug well come from something else?
Yes. On relevant earlier Boxsters, separate spark-plug tubes and O-rings can leak. A plug-tube repair can be different from resealing the full cover. The ignition area should be inspected before deciding which service is required.
Can I keep driving with a small valve cover leak?
A small seep does not always require recovery, but it should be assessed before it worsens. Check the oil level using the procedure for your model. Stop for an oil-pressure warning, rapid oil loss, heavy smoke or oil reaching very hot exhaust parts. There is no safe mileage allowance for an unassessed active leak.
Do both sides need replacing together?
Not automatically. If only one bank is leaking and the other side is dry and serviceable, the repair can be limited to the affected side. Both-bank work makes sense when both sides have confirmed leakage or when the engine-specific condition justifies it.
Should coils and spark plugs be replaced at the same time?
Only when condition or service requirements justify it. Oil contamination can damage a coil boot or foul a plug, but a cover leak alone does not mean every ignition component needs replacement. Any additional parts are listed separately on the quotation.
How long does the repair take?
Many straightforward one-bank jobs can fit within one working day once the correct parts are available. Both-bank work, difficult access, sealant curing requirements or extra repairs can extend the visit to 1–2 working days. Confirm the expected handover time when approving the quote.
What should I send on WhatsApp for a quote?
