What changes the total?
Generation, fabric construction, rear-window type, parts availability and previous repairs all matter. Damaged tension cables, seals, lining, fittings or frame components are listed separately. A covering-only estimate is not the price of an entire new roof assembly.
Checks and completion time
The initial fault check is free. Focused leak tracing or roof diagnosis, when needed, has a guide budget of AED 300–750 including VAT and is separate unless included in your repair quote.
A simple adjustment may be possible during the same visit. Covering replacement, drying and repeated sealing checks can take several workshop days after parts arrive. We confirm the expected handover before booking.

Leaks, seals and rear windows
A wet carpet can come from a different point than the drip you first notice. The repair must correct the water path, not just cover the nearest seam.
- Water beside the windows
- Check the glass-to-seal contact, window position, roof seating and damaged weatherstrips. Wind noise and water entry together can point to a fit problem.
- Dampness behind the seats
- Drain areas, water channels, seal joints and accessible trim need attention. Clearing a blockage is only part of the job if water has already soaked the cabin.
- Drips at the rear window
- The window edge, bond, stitching and nearby fabric are assessed together. Depending on the construction and material condition, the answer may be a local repair or a replacement covering.

Does your soft top need replacing?
Condition and the repair finish matter more than a fixed roof age. A repair can be good value where the surrounding material remains strong.
Repair a local defect
A small split, a repairable seam or an isolated window-edge problem may be suitable for local work. The fabric must still tolerate the roof’s folding and tension.
- Assess the material around the defect, not only the tear.
- Agree the appearance of the repair; a patch or stitching may remain visible.
- Check the repaired area when the roof is closed and folded.
Fit a new covering
Widespread brittleness, repeated tearing, badly worn fold lines or an unsuitable window repair can make renewal the better purchase. A sound frame and functioning drives may be retained.
- Match the covering to the generation and fitted roof.
- Choose the material, colour and window arrangement before ordering.
- Include fitting, tension adjustment and final sealing checks.
Faded fabric alone does not prove that the roof needs replacement. Equally, a waterproofing treatment cannot repair a split seam, detached window or misaligned frame. We explain the realistic finish and expected benefit before you choose.
Choosing a replacement covering
Compare the supplied product as well as its colour. A cheap fabric listing can leave out the rear window, inner lining, tension parts and installation needed to finish the job.
- Material and source
- Ask for the manufacturer and fabric specification. We compare available genuine and compatible replacement choices for your roof; an OEM-quality label alone does not identify the material.
- Window and lining
- Confirm whether the rear window comes with the covering, the window type and any heated-glass connections. Headliner renewal is a separate item unless expressly included.
- Fit and supporting parts
- Inspect seals, tension cables, straps, bows and fittings before installation. Parts that would damage the new fabric should be priced with the work.
A used complete roof can contain aged fabric, worn drives and hidden damage. If you already have one, send its details before arranging fitting. Appearance alone does not establish compatibility or make it cheaper once installation is included.

Fit a new soft-top covering

- Included: Assessment of reusable frame and drives, specified compatible covering, removal, fitting, tension adjustment and final checks.
- Not included: New drive units, a replacement frame, headliner, separate seals or additional trim unless listed.
Allow several workshop days after the selected covering arrives.
Fitment by Boxster generation
The badge and paint colour do not identify a replacement top. Frame geometry, window construction, lining and operating arrangements can differ, and an older car may already have a replacement roof.
Share the model year and a photograph if available. We confirm the fitted roof and request the VIN when needed for parts matching. A converted rear window or previous frame replacement should be mentioned before ordering.
- 986 Boxster
- Check the actual rear-window design and any earlier covering conversion, together with ageing seals, drains and fabric. Do not order solely from the registration year.
- 987 Boxster
- Match the covering and window arrangement to the frame. Review fabric folding, straps, seal contact and any previous repairs.
- 981 and 718 / 982
- Confirm the exact top, lining, window connections and fit. Newer bodywork does not remove the need to check seals and drainage.
- Spyder variants
- Special roof arrangements require a separate fitment check and quotation. A standard powered Boxster roof listing should not be assumed suitable.
Stuck, uneven or insecure roof?
A new covering will not fix a failed drive, latch or position signal. If the roof jams, twists, makes a grinding noise or traps the fabric, stop operating it. Repeated attempts can turn one damaged component into several.

Final checks before handover
- Roof seating: review the repaired area, tension, seams and window contact with the roof closed.
- Normal movement: check folding, clearances and latching where safe and relevant to the repair.
- Water entry: test the repaired water path and review accessible damp areas before handover.
- Aftercare: explain any curing time, cleaning instructions and when the roof can be operated normally.
Keep the invoice and report a returning leak with its location and the conditions when it appears. Water retained beneath trim can take longer to dry than the carpet surface suggests.
Simple care between visits
Clean gently
Use care products suitable for the fitted fabric and seals. Avoid aggressive solvents, abrasive brushing and concentrated pressure at seams or window edges. Follow the product and vehicle instructions.
Keep drainage clear
Remove accessible loose debris without forcing tools into drains. Book a check for standing water, recurring dampness or a musty smell. Cleaning the visible roof does not clear every concealed water path.
Let the top fold freely
Keep luggage and loose objects away from the roof’s travel. Stop if fabric catches or movement becomes uneven. Follow the correct operating procedure and any after-repair instructions for your model.

Local seal, drain or leak repairs have planning budgets of AED 700–3,000 including VAT. Local fabric or rear-window area work is AED 1,200–4,500, while a compatible outer covering is AED 4,500–8,500+ fitted. The actual repair, materials and extra damage determine the quotation. Focused diagnosis is separate unless included.
Does a new covering include the whole roof mechanism?
No. A replacement covering usually means the specified outer fabric and its supplied window arrangement. The frame, drive units, headliner, seals and separate trim are included only when listed. Ask for an itemised fitted quote before ordering a complete roof advertised online.
Can you repair a small tear instead of replacing the top?
Sometimes. The surrounding material must be strong enough, and the repair must tolerate folding and tension. Its position, size and the fabric’s condition determine suitability. A local repair may remain visible, so agree the expected finish before proceeding.
Can the rear window be repaired separately?
It depends on the window construction, the bond or stitching and the condition of the surrounding material. A suitable local repair may be possible, while widespread deterioration can require a new covering. We confirm whether the proposed covering includes the window and any heating connections.
Why does the roof leak when it closes normally?
Roof movement and water sealing are related but separate functions. Blocked drainage, poor window-to-seal contact, damaged weatherstrips, seams or a failing rear-window edge can admit water even when the roof opens and closes. The repair should follow the actual water path.
Will a new roof stop all wind noise?
Not necessarily. Glass position, seal contact and frame seating can cause noise even with sound fabric. We review those areas before recommending a covering. Tell us where the sound comes from and whether it began after window or roof work.
How long will my Boxster be in the workshop?
A straightforward adjustment or local repair may be possible in one visit when access and materials allow. Covering work can require several workshop days after the correct part arrives. Leak tracing, drying, curing and repeat water checks can extend the visit. We confirm the expected completion time with the quotation.
Can I keep driving with a leaking or stuck roof?
Do not drive with a roof that is unsecured or jammed partway. Call with its position so collection can be arranged if needed. For a closed roof with a leak, keep the car sheltered and arrange repair promptly, especially if trim is soaked or electrical symptoms appear.
What should I send to get a roof estimate?
Describe whether the problem is water entry, damaged fabric, wind noise or roof movement. The model year, leak location and photographs help but are optional to start. Send any existing footage rather than cycling a jammed roof to record another video. We will ask for parts-matching details when needed.
