If the belt, tensioner and several pulleys need work, allow AED 2,310–4,725 or more, depending on the components listed. Belt brand, engine specification, access, seized fasteners and previous repairs affect the total.
Separate unless quoted: Oil or coolant leak repairs, an alternator, AC compressor, water pump, damaged brackets and internal engine work. The initial fault check is free; extended investigation or dismantling is agreed before charging.
A straightforward replacement can often be completed within a working day after parts and a slot are confirmed. Allow longer for additional faults or parts ordering.
Renew the belt before it lets go
Signs the belt needs attention
Frayed edges, missing ribs, splits, glazing or rubber dust deserve attention. A belt can also be damaged by fluid contamination or by running out of line. Replacing it while the car is still usable can avoid an unplanned stop.
- Scheduled renewal. If the belt is due under the car’s maintenance schedule, book its replacement alongside any genuinely due service work.
- Squeal or chirp. Explain whether it happens at startup, with the AC on or as engine speed changes. Noise alone does not identify the failed part.
- Fresh damage after a recent replacement. Have the drive checked for a rough pulley, unstable tensioner or leak before fitting another belt.
With a broken or displaced belt, severe fraying, smoke, or a new charging or temperature warning alongside belt trouble, stop safely and switch off. Call for collection rather than restarting to record the noise.

Careful access and installation
Access and fitting
The Boxster’s mid-engine layout makes access part of the job. Where the procedure involves interior covers, the nearby trim, sill and carpet need protection, followed by careful refitting.
The old belt is removed and the accessible pulleys, tensioner and driven components are checked for damage, play or roughness. We fit the matched replacement using the correct routing and the tensioning procedure for that engine.
Before handover, the belt must sit correctly in its pulley grooves and run without abnormal tracking or noise. Relevant accessory operation is checked, and the removed covers are secured. Any separate findings are explained with the invoice.
986, 987, 981 and 718
The correct belt
A similar-looking belt is not enough. The model year, engine and VIN identify the required length, rib profile and related hardware. S, GTS and Spyder specifications, transmission details and earlier changes can affect the parts selection.
We can discuss genuine Porsche parts and identified supplier-brand alternatives where available for the application. The quotation should name the selected part, rather than rely on a broad “OEM quality” description.
Accessory layouts differ between generations. Charging, cooling, AC and hydraulic steering components are not driven in the same way on every Boxster. That is why an older-model belt listing or a single replacement interval cannot be applied to the whole range.
Why belts fail early
A belt that keeps squealing or fraying needs more than another replacement. A pulley running at the wrong angle can damage its edge; a rough bearing can add resistance; a tensioner that no longer controls movement can let it slip.
Oil or coolant on the drive also needs attention. Cleaning the area without correcting the leak leaves the new belt exposed to the same problem. A damaged alternator, compressor or water pump is a separate repair and should be identified on the quotation.
Previous repair details
If the belt was changed elsewhere, bring the invoice or part reference if you have it. Tell us how soon the noise returned and whether other work was done at the same time. You do not need to buy another belt before contacting us.

How much is a Boxster serpentine belt replacement?
Plan around AED 895–1,890 including 5% VAT for a matched belt, normal fitting and the checks described above. Tensioner, pulley, leak or accessory repairs increase the total. These are budgeting estimates; the workshop provides a written quotation for your car.
Are a drive belt and serpentine belt the same thing?
For this service, both names refer to the ribbed accessory belt. It transfers drive to the accessories fitted to the particular engine. Replacing it is separate from internal engine timing work.
Can the belt be repaired instead of replaced?
A damaged belt is replaced. Gluing, splicing or spraying it does not restore its strength or correct a worn pulley. A repair to the surrounding drive system may also be needed if another component damaged the belt.
Does squealing always mean I need a new belt?
No. Noise can come from the belt, tensioner, an idler or a driven accessory. Tell us when it happens. Inspection establishes whether you need a belt replacement, related component work or a different repair.
How often should my Boxster belt be changed?
Use the maintenance schedule for the exact model year and engine, then consider its condition and recorded replacement date. There is no single kilometre interval suitable for every 986, 987, 981 and 718. Visible damage or contamination needs attention even before scheduled replacement is due.
Should every pulley be changed with the belt?
Not automatically. Serviceable pulleys can be retained where the applicable service instructions allow. Rough bearings, play, misalignment or a faulty tensioner can justify combined replacement. The quotation names the components being changed.
Can I drive to the workshop if the belt has broken?
Do not drive with a broken, displaced or badly frayed belt. Stop safely and switch off, especially with a charging or temperature warning, smoke or a sudden change in steering assistance. Call the workshop and explain the symptoms so collection can be arranged.
Can you finish the replacement in one day?
Straightforward belt replacement can often fit within a workshop day once the correct part and a slot are available. Pulley work, leaks, seized components or ordered-in parts can extend the stay. Confirm the collection time when the quotation is agreed.
