Rear bearing replacement prices

For one straightforward rear bearing replacement, allow AED 1,260–2,415 including 5% VAT. The budget covers the bearing and normal fitting labour. It is a planning range, not a confirmed fixed workshop price.

Typical one-side repair budget in AED
ItemEstimated amountWhat it covers
Parts700–1,400 before VATCompatible new bearing and normal fitting hardware as quoted.
Labour500–900 before VATNormal removal, fitting, refitting and final checks.
5% VAT60–115Applied to the above parts-and-labour subtotal.
Total1,260–2,415 including VATOne rear corner with a serviceable hub and no additional faults.

What can increase the total?

A damaged hub or carrier, seized driveshaft splines, broken fasteners, ABS sensor damage, brake repairs or required alignment add work. Detailed noise tracing beyond the free initial fault check is quoted separately.

How long should you allow?

A straightforward single bearing may take around 2–4 workshop hours, usually within one working day once parts are available. Corrosion, hub damage or ordered parts can extend the booking.

Does your Boxster need a bearing or a complete hub?

The bearing allows the wheel hub to rotate while carrying road loads. The hub holds the wheel and connects to the rear driveshaft. They work together, but they are not automatically replaced together.

Where the bearing is separately serviceable, a sound hub may be reused. A worn mounting surface, damage during previous work or excessive movement can make hub replacement necessary. We explain that finding before adding a hub to the quote.

Choose a new, correctly specified bearing from an identified manufacturer. Genuine Porsche and suitable supplier-branded alternatives can be compared according to availability. Used wheel bearings are poor value when the removal and installation labour is substantial.

Sealed bearing units are not repaired by adding grease or tightening away internal wear. The correct replacement assembly, hardware and fitting method depend on the vehicle.

Three typical repair estimates

These are example budgets, not records of completed repairs or fixed offers. Parts and labour are before VAT; the headline totals include 5%. The VIN, selected manufacturer and inspection findings confirm your price.

Typical job estimate

986: one noisy rear bearing

AED 1,260–1,680

Total including 5% VAT

One side has confirmed bearing wear; the existing hub can be reused. A suitable supplier-branded bearing is selected.

Parts and materials: AED 700–950
Labour: AED 500–650
5% VAT: AED 60–80

Includes: One new bearing, quoted fitting hardware, normal removal/refitting and final rotation and road checks.

Excludes: New hub, damaged ABS sensor, seized-part repairs, brake work and alignment.

Estimated time: 2–4 workshop hours; usually one working day.

Typical job estimate

987: genuine-parts replacement

AED 1,680–2,310

Total including 5% VAT

One rear corner needs replacement, with a compatible Porsche Genuine bearing available within the guide budget.

Parts and materials: AED 1,000–1,300
Labour: AED 600–900
5% VAT: AED 80–110

Includes: Bearing, normal hardware, removal and installation, wheel-speed checks where relevant and safe road test.

Excludes: Hub or carrier replacement, driveshaft repairs, extra diagnostics and alignment.

Estimated time: Around one working day once the correct part is available.

Typical job estimate

Both rear bearings confirmed worn

AED 2,520–4,830

Total including 5% VAT

Both rear corners show bearing wear. This is not a recommendation to replace a quiet, serviceable opposite bearing.

Parts and materials: AED 1,400–2,800
Labour: AED 1,000–1,800
5% VAT: AED 120–230

Includes: Two compatible new bearings, normal fitting hardware, fitting on both sides and final checks.

Excludes: New hubs, carriers, driveshafts, brake components and alignment.

Estimated time: Around 4–8 workshop hours; allow 1–2 working days.

981 and 718 fitment, different hub designs or additional damage may fall outside these examples. We quote those combinations individually rather than substituting the cheapest early-model bearing.

Recognise the complaint

Rear humming, rumbling or vibration?

Bearing noise often changes with road speed and may change as the wheel is loaded in a bend. Tyre noise, brake drag and driveline faults can sound similar from the driver’s seat.

Road-speed hum
Tell us when it starts and whether different road surfaces change it. Uneven or stepped tyre tread can imitate bearing noise.
Roughness or wheel movement
A bearing may feel rough or show play, but noise can appear before obvious looseness. Suspension joints are checked when movement is present.
Clicking or acceleration vibration
A driveshaft or CV joint can be involved. Noise that changes under power is useful information, not proof of a bearing fault.
ABS or PSM warning
A wheel-speed sensor, wiring or encoder problem needs checking. A warning alone does not justify replacing the bearing.

Do not perform swerving tests to identify the side. Noise can travel through the body; the workshop compares both rear corners and checks tyres and brakes before ordering parts.

Fitting quality matters

How the bearing is fitted

A quality bearing still needs the correct tools, clean mounting surfaces and specified tightening procedure. Care during fitting helps prevent early repeat failure.

After confirming the faulty corner, we remove the necessary wheel, brake and driveline components for that design. The hub, carrier, driveshaft connection and nearby sensor wiring are inspected while accessible.

For a press-fit bearing, the correct adapters support the appropriate ring so fitting force does not damage the rolling elements. A bolted unit follows its own installation procedure. Required single-use nuts, bolts or retaining parts are renewed as specified.

Refitting includes the vehicle-specific torque requirements, free-rotation and play checks, brake checks and a road test where safe. If the suspension geometry was disturbed, alignment is checked and any adjustment is quoted.

There is no single bearing size, axle-nut torque or installation method for every Boxster. Those details are confirmed from the vehicle specification.

Replace what is needed

Which bearings need replacement?

One side or both?

Rear bearings do not normally need automatic axle-pair replacement like certain brake or tyre work. If the opposite bearing is quiet and passes inspection, replacing the faulty side can be the appropriate repair.

Replacing both becomes reasonable when both show wear, damage or confirmed noise. We explain the findings on each side so you can compare the single-side and two-side totals.

Fitment by Boxster generation

Bearing dimensions, hub and carrier design, rear driveshaft connections and wheel-speed sensing can vary. Engine badge and registration year alone may not identify the complete assembly; we confirm fitment by VIN and the installed components.

Front and rear parts are not assumed interchangeable. If the fault is at the front, compare the symptoms and repair details on our front wheel bearing page.

When to stop driving

Grinding, significant wheel looseness, a visibly tilted wheel, unstable handling or severe heat at the wheel needs urgent attention. Stop safely and arrange assistance. Do not touch a hot hub or keep driving to see whether the noise disappears. There is no guaranteed safe distance for a failing bearing.

Independent care in Dubai

Plan your workshop visit

Bring the year, mileage and a description of when the noise occurs. A short recording can help explain the complaint, but an inspection establishes whether it is the bearing, tyre, brake or another component.

Our independent Porsche workshop is in Al Quoz 4. Repairs begin after you approve the quoted work. Once approved, free pickup can be arranged from your Dubai location; tell us about wheel looseness or severe grinding when organising collection.

Confirm the selected bearing brand, included hardware and warranty terms on the job card. The repair warranty policy explains eligibility and exclusions.

A useful first message

What to send for a quote

  • Your Boxster year and model.
  • Whether the noise changes with speed or cornering.
  • Any vibration, wheel looseness or ABS warning.

A short recording can help describe the sound, but you do not need to identify the faulty side before contacting us.

Useful answers

Questions before you book

Does a noisy bearing always have noticeable wheel play?

No. Internal bearing damage can make noise before obvious movement develops. A hand-spin or play check alone may miss a fault that appears under road load. The workshop combines the complaint, a safe road test and inspection of both rear corners.

Is alignment included with a rear wheel bearing replacement?

It is not automatically included in the guide price. Whether it is needed depends on the components removed and whether geometry settings were disturbed. The workshop confirms any alignment check or adjustment separately before adding it to the bill.

Can replacing the bearing fix an ABS or PSM warning?

Only if the confirmed cause is related to the bearing assembly or its wheel-speed encoder where fitted. A separate sensor, damaged wiring or another fault needs its own repair. Fault codes and sensor data help establish the cause; a warning is not a bearing diagnosis by itself.

Can I replace only one rear wheel bearing?

Yes, when inspection confirms that only one side is faulty and the opposite side is serviceable. Both sides should be checked, but age or mileage alone does not justify replacing a healthy bearing. Our two-bearing estimate applies when wear is confirmed on both sides.

How long should a new bearing last?

There is no honest universal mileage guarantee. Part quality, correct installation, road impacts, water ingress and vehicle use influence life. A recurring hum or new play after repair should be checked promptly under the written warranty terms rather than dismissed as bedding-in.

Can a tyre problem sound like a rear bearing?

Yes. Stepped or uneven tread can create a road-speed hum, while an out-of-balance or damaged wheel can cause vibration. We check these possibilities before recommending a bearing. If the sound is actually from the front, the repair and parts are quoted for that location.

What happens if the hub is damaged as well?

The quotation is revised to identify the additional hub or carrier work before it proceeds. A damaged bearing seat or hub mounting surface can prevent a new bearing from fitting correctly. Reusing that component simply to keep the original estimate would risk repeat failure.

Can I book a same-day replacement?

Ask about the current schedule and parts stock before travelling. An uncomplicated one-side job can often fit within a working day once the correct bearing is available, but it is not a guaranteed same-day service. Seized components or additional faults may require more time.
