What can add to the bill?

Lights stay on
A sticking switch, incorrect setting or poor pedal return can keep the brake request active. Wiring and control faults can also be responsible.
Address it promptly: the lamps can drain the battery and following drivers cannot tell when you start braking.
One light fails
A bulb, LED unit, holder, connection or local wiring fault is more likely than a switch affecting every lamp. The centre stop lamp is checked separately too.

986, 987, 981 and 718
Match the car and part
“Boxster brake switch” is not enough information to order from. Model year, VIN, transmission and the installed electrical system establish the correct application.
Earlier Boxster generations
On 986 and 987 cars, the inspection also considers ageing connectors, bulb holders and previous wiring repairs. Manual, Tiptronic and later PDK configurations do not all have the same associated checks.
A switch that physically fits may still have the wrong connector, contacts or setting procedure. We confirm the application before ordering.
Later Boxster generations
On 981 and 718/982 cars, the brake request is also relevant to other electronic functions. We verify the fitted signal arrangement and avoid treating a PDK or stability warning as proof of a failed switch.
Tell us about any earlier pedal, rear-lamp or electrical work. An unresolved connection or installation problem can otherwise cause a repeat visit.
Choose a dependable replacement
Ask for the part manufacturer and specification in the quotation. Porsche Genuine and suitable new supplier-branded options can be compared when available. “OEM” on a listing alone does not establish the manufacturer or compatibility. A used switch is usually a poor saving when access, fitting and repeat labour are considered.

How much does replacement cost?

Can I drive with faulty brake lights?

What if only one lamp fails?

Can this stop the car leaving Park?
A missing brake-pedal signal can prevent the selector interlock from releasing on an automatic Boxster. Low battery voltage, wiring and selector faults can produce similar symptoms. Tell us whether your car has Tiptronic or PDK and do not force the selector.
Can it cause ABS or PSM warnings?
A missing or inconsistent brake signal can affect systems that use that information, including cruise control and, on applicable models, ABS or Porsche Stability Management. Those warnings do not prove the switch is faulty. Any warnings remaining after the repair need their own check.
Does the switch need programming?
A conventional pedal-switch replacement does not usually involve security programming. Correct installation, setting where required and verification of the brake signal are still essential. The technician follows the procedure for the fitted system and checks related faults after replacement.
