What changes the bill? The cluster generation, failed component, previous repairs, corrosion and parts availability. A replacement assembly, vehicle wiring, sensors, battery work and replacement-unit coding are outside these guide totals unless listed in the quotation. AED 4,200 is not a price ceiling.
The initial fault check is free. If extended testing or cluster removal is needed, a separate guide allowance is AED 315–525 including VAT. Any such charge, and whether it is credited against an approved repair, is agreed first.
Planning time: a straightforward repair may take one working day; display work around 1–3 days; more involved internal faults around 2–5 days. These estimates start after approval and depend on parts and testing. Ask for a confirmed collection plan when booking.

Repair the fault you can see
Missing pixels, dark areas and poor illumination can make mileage, trip information or warning messages difficult to read. Where the fault is confined to a display, backlight or connection, repairing that part can keep a serviceable original cluster in the car.
- LCD and pixel faults. Investigate missing characters, black patches, fading or an unreadable information panel.
- Lighting and controls. Restore failed illumination or address a trip/reset control that no longer responds.
- Gauge movement. Check a sticking or erratic speedometer, rev counter, fuel or temperature gauge against the information reaching the cluster.
The replacement component must suit the actual unit. Screen dimensions, connections and display technology differ, so a part advertised simply as “Boxster compatible” is not enough.

When the whole cluster needs replacing
A badly corroded board, damaged processor, unavailable display or failed previous repair can make replacement the more practical option. Compare the complete fitted and configured price with repair, rather than the cost of a bare used unit.
A genuine new assembly, compatible rebuilt unit or tested used cluster may be considered according to availability and the car’s requirements. A used unit can introduce its own faults and donor-car data. Compatibility and any adaptation must be established before it is ordered.
What if the warning is real?

Mileage and vehicle identity
Keep the car’s recorded history
Repairing the original unit aims to preserve its recorded mileage and existing configuration. Replacing an LCD does not mean the mileage should be changed. If memory or the circuit board is damaged, data recovery and repairability need checking before any promise is made.
Have the current reading and fault recorded before removal. For a replacement, the quotation should identify the selected unit and required configuration. Keep the invoice and any documented mileage discrepancy with the vehicle’s service history.
Match more than the shape
986, 987, 981 and 718 Boxster clusters are not a single interchangeable part. The VIN, unit number, model year, transmission and market specification help establish compatibility. Kilometres versus miles, display language and fitted equipment also matter when considering an imported or used unit.

A successful repair needs more than a screen that lights up on a bench. The fitted cluster must communicate with the car and operate correctly through normal ignition cycles.

Will repairing the display change my mileage?
An original-unit display repair aims to retain the existing recorded mileage and coding. Data recovery cannot be guaranteed if memory or the circuit board is badly damaged. Replacement requirements and any documented discrepancy should be explained before work is approved.
Can I buy a used cluster and have it fitted?
Ask for a compatibility check before buying. Part number, hardware version, transmission, market specification, units and coding requirements can differ. A used unit may carry donor-car data, and successful adaptation is not guaranteed for every unit.
Does a warning light mean the cluster is faulty?
Usually the light is reporting a condition detected elsewhere in the car. The warning, stored faults and actual vehicle condition need checking. Replacing a display or clearing a code does not repair an engine, ABS, airbag or charging-system fault.
How long does the repair take?
A straightforward lighting or gauge repair may be completed in a working day. Allow roughly 1–3 working days for a display repair and 2–5 for more involved internal electrical work. These are planning estimates after approval; intermittent faults, parts delivery or replacement coding can take longer.
Is the cluster the same as the PCM screen?
No. The instrument cluster sits in front of the driver and displays speed, engine revolutions, fuel and other vehicle information. Porsche Communication Management is the separate centre-console infotainment unit. Send a photo if you are unsure which display is faulty.
Should I bring the car or only the cluster?
For an initial enquiry, bring the complete car or arrange pickup so its power supply, wiring and communication can be checked. If the cluster is already removed, contact the workshop before sending it. A bench result alone cannot confirm that the vehicle wiring is healthy.
