Repair the part that failed

Repair or replace?

A broken retaining clip does not automatically require a complete visor. A worn internal pivot, cracked visor body or unavailable mirror component can make replacement the better choice.

Visor body remains sound

Repair the fitting

A compatible clip, mounting, mirror component, local electrical connection or covering may be repairable while retaining the original visor. The surrounding attachment and internal movement still need to be sound.

Internal mechanism is worn

Match a replacement

A visor that repeatedly falls, has a fractured body or cannot hold its position may need a complete assembly. Side, body style, colour, surface texture and vanity equipment must match the car.

A photograph can identify the visible complaint, but it cannot show the condition inside a worn pivot. The quotation states whether the job uses a repaired component, a used original part, a new part or a complete replacement assembly.

Planning estimates with VAT

911 sun visor prices

These customer-payable estimates include 5% VAT and are based on the price guidance previously published on this page. They are planning figures, not confirmed prices for every 911 generation or trim.

Estimated totals for one affected visor or fitting, including 5% VAT. Scroll sideways on smaller screens.
WorkEstimated totalTypical inclusion
Clip or mounting repairAED 105–420Available compatible retaining or mounting item, ordinary fitting labour and a movement check. Roof-side attachment damage is separate.
Serviceable hinge or pivot repairAED 210–525Assessment and repair allowance where the fitted mechanism can be serviced without replacing the complete visor.
Covering, mirror or local light repairAED 210–525The agreed local repair with ordinary removal, refitting and a function check. Material matching and wider wiring work are separate.
Complete matched visor replacementAED 630–3,150An available matched assembly in the stated condition, ordinary fitting and checks of retention, movement and fitted vanity features.

Do not add the rows together. They describe different solutions. Pair replacement, rare trim, special-order parts, damaged headlining, modified mounts, cabin wiring faults and work outside the named visor are excluded unless listed in the written quotation.

What changes the total?

Generation, Coupe, Cabriolet or Targa body style, affected side, trim material, vanity lighting, part condition, availability and previous repairs can all change the price. A supplied part also needs checking before labour is agreed.

How long does it take?

A simple clip or fitted replacement can often be completed during a short workshop visit once the correct part is available. Covering work, internal repair and special-order parts take longer. The quotation confirms the expected completion time.

Send one clear photo

Include the model year, affected side and the main problem. We can advise whether to start with a fitting repair or price a complete replacement.

Describe what the visor does

Common visor problems

The same complaint can come from a small external fitting or an internal assembly fault. Note where the movement occurs and which functions still work.

01

Drops while driving

The internal friction mechanism may be worn, or the complete mounting may be moving. A driver-side visor that falls into the line of sight should be secured and repaired promptly.

Check the pivot and roof mounting.
02

Will not stay clipped

A damaged retaining clip can often be treated separately when the visor body and pivot remain sound. Cracks around the attachment need to be assessed before fitting another clip.

Photograph the clip and its base.
03

Mirror or light fails

A broken mirror cover, mirror insert, switch, local connection or light can create different repair choices. A wider cabin wiring fault is not included in a local visor repair.

Mention whether the light ever works.
04

Covering is worn

Loose, marked or damaged material may be repairable when the visor structure still holds correctly. New material must be agreed against the remaining headlining and passenger visor.

Compare colour in natural light.

The visor failed after roof, headlining or electrical work? Mention that timing. Previous adhesive, altered fittings or disturbed wiring can change the appropriate repair and should be visible in the quotation.

Match the actual cabin

Side, trim and body style

A black visor is not automatically the correct black visor. Shape, texture, pivot position, electrical connector and mirror equipment can differ even when two parts look similar in an advert.

Classic 911, 964 and 993
Original appearance and usable mounting hardware can make repair attractive. If replacement is chosen, compare material, profile and attachment rather than ordering by colour alone.
996 and 997
Inspect the visor body, retaining clip, pivot and roof-side fitting together. Coupe, Cabriolet and Targa applications can differ, as can illuminated mirror equipment.
991 and 992
Confirm the affected side, body style, interior finish and vanity features before ordering. Later cabin materials and equipped assemblies can create a wide replacement-price range.

Existing material can fade, so a new single visor may look different beside the passenger side and headlining. If appearance is the priority, compare the finish before deciding between one side and a pair. Pair replacement is not automatically included.

Three planning examples

Typical visor quotations

These are estimated examples, not completed customer jobs or fixed offers. Each total includes 5% VAT for one affected side under the stated assumptions.

Estimated job 01

997 retaining clip

Example: a 997 Carrera Coupe has a sound passenger visor but a broken compatible retaining clip.

AED 190–370

  • Included: clip allowance, ordinary fitting and a retention check.
  • Assumes: the roof-side attachment and visor pivot remain sound.
  • Separate: cracked trim, altered mounting or complete visor replacement.
Estimated job 02

991 covering repair

Example: a 991 Carrera visor holds its position, but the visible covering is worn and suitable for local renewal.

AED 315–525

  • Included: agreed material allowance, local covering work and refitting.
  • Assumes: the internal mechanism and visor body remain usable.
  • Separate: exact rare trim sourcing, pair renewal and headlining work.
Estimated job 03

992 matched replacement

Example: a 992 Carrera driver visor repeatedly drops because its internal mechanism is beyond practical repair.

AED 1,575–3,150

  • Included: matched assembly allowance, ordinary fitting and function checks.
  • Confirmed: side, finish, body style and vanity equipment before ordering.
  • Separate: unavailable special trim, pair replacement or wider electrical work.

The final quotation identifies the supplied part’s condition, fitting labour, VAT, exclusions and expected completion time. A marketplace listing is not proof that a visor matches the car or is free from internal wear.

From enquiry to handover

How the repair works

The process stays focused on the failed visor while protecting the headlining, trim and electrical connector around it.

  1. 01

    Show the problem

Send the model year, affected side and a clear photo. Describe dropping, looseness, cracking, surface wear or a mirror-light fault.

  2. 02

    Check repairability

The body, pivot, clip, attachment, covering and fitted electrical feature are checked as relevant to the complaint.

  3. 03

    Approve the option

The quotation identifies the repair or replacement, supplied part condition, labour, VAT, exclusions and expected time.

  4. 04

    Fit and verify

The visor is refitted and checked for stowing, lowering, side movement, retention and vanity functions included in the job.

We do not describe an alternative material as an exact original match, present a used assembly as new or promise that every internal mechanism can be repaired. The invoice should describe what was supplied and completed.

What the quotation covers

A clear quotation separates the visor work from unrelated trim or wiring concerns, so you know what the price buys before parts are ordered.

Normally included

  • Assessment of the reported visor problem
  • The agreed repair allowance or named replacement part
  • Ordinary removal, fitting and relevant function checks
  • 5% VAT when the quote uses these customer-payable estimates

Quoted separately when needed

  • Damaged headlining, roof-side trim or modified mounting points
  • Wider interior wiring or electrical diagnosis outside the visor
  • Second-side or pair replacement and special-order trim
  • Other interior work not listed in the approved quotation

How much does Porsche 911 sun visor repair cost?

Use AED 105–420 including 5% VAT as a planning estimate for a compatible clip or mounting repair. Some serviceable hinge, covering, mirror or local light repairs are estimated at AED 210–525. A complete matched visor replacement is estimated at AED 630–3,150. The written quotation confirms the exact part, condition, labour and total.

Can a drooping 911 sun visor be repaired?

Sometimes. A loose external mounting or serviceable pivot may be repairable. If the internal friction mechanism is worn, the visor body is fractured or the required component is not available separately, replacing the complete assembly can be more dependable.

Can you replace only the retaining clip?

Yes, when a compatible clip is available and its roof-side attachment and the visor remain sound. A cracked mounting point or worn internal pivot will not be corrected by changing only the visible clip.

Do I need to replace both visors?

Not automatically. One side can be repaired or replaced when a suitable match is available. Age-related fading can make a new single visor look different beside the other side, so compare the finish before deciding whether a pair is preferable.

Can the original covering be matched?

The fitted material and available options can be compared, but an exact original match depends on supply and the condition of the remaining interior. Any alternative material and expected appearance should be agreed before work begins.

Does the price include vanity-light repair?

Only when the quotation names that work. A failed bulb, switch, contact, internal visor wire and wider cabin supply fault are different concerns. Broader electrical diagnosis is separate from a local visor repair unless it is listed.

How long does visor repair take?

A simple clip repair or replacement fitting can often be completed during a short workshop visit once the correct part is available. Covering repairs, internal work and special-order parts need more time. The expected completion date is confirmed before you approve the job.

What should I send for a quotation?

Send the model year, affected side, a clear photo of the full visor and a close photo of the failed fitting or mirror. Briefly say whether it drops, rattles, will not clip in, has damaged material or has a mirror-light problem. More details can be requested later if parts matching requires them.

Can visor repair be combined with other 911 work?

Yes. If the car is already visiting for maintenance or another repair, mention the visor when booking through our Porsche 911 service page. The additional work is included only when it appears on the written quotation.
