Boxster alarm repair prices

A repairable original module can cost less than a replacement. A faulty switch, connector or siren can also be the reason the alarm keeps sounding, so the quotation identifies the actual work required.

What is free, and what is extra?

The initial computer or fault check is free. Dismantling and bench work are outside that offer. Leak repairs, carpet drying, replacement keys, batteries, other control units and extensive wiring work are separate unless listed in the quote.

What changes your quotation?

Model year, exact part number, corrosion, recoverable security data and parts availability affect the cost. New genuine and specialist exchange units can exceed the replacement guide. We confirm the supplied part, labour, software work and VAT-inclusive total together.

Three planning examples

What Boxster alarm-system work may cost

These are estimated service examples, not completed customer repairs. Each range includes 5% VAT for the work described; the exact module, corrosion level, security data, wiring condition and supported setup determine the written quotation.

Estimated example 01

Repair the original alarm module

Concern: the original control unit is serviceable enough for a viable local electronic repair.

AED 800–1,800

  • Work: removal, bench assessment, viable local repair, refitting and function checks.
  • Separate if needed: leak repair, key work, battery or extensive wiring repairs.
Estimated example 02

Water-affected module and connections

Concern: 986 under-seat moisture has affected the alarm/locking electronics or accessible connections.

AED 900–2,200

  • Work: corrosion assessment and repair where viable, refitting and checks.
  • Separate if needed: extensive wiring damage, carpet drying or the water-entry repair itself.
Estimated example 03

Compatible replacement and setup

Concern: the original alarm unit is too damaged or unreliable to retain.

AED 2,500–6,500+

  • Work: suitable replacement, fitting, supported coding or data preparation and locking/key checks.
  • Separate if needed: donor incompatibility, replacement keys or unrelated immobilizer faults.

Alarm module repair and replacement

The aim is a Boxster that locks, arms and recognises its keys correctly. We explain whether your existing control unit can be retained or another part is needed.

Repair your unit
Localised board or connection damage may be repairable if the hardware and stored data remain usable. Retaining the original can avoid unnecessary parts expense.
Fit a compatible unit
Extensive corrosion, burnt circuits or an unreliable module can justify replacement. The quote identifies whether the unit is new, refurbished or an exchange, and what setup is included.
Correct the connected fault
If the module works but a lock switch, siren, power supply or wire has failed, that component gets its own repair plan. A fault code alone is not a reason to buy an alarm unit.

The original unit is assessed before any promise of data transfer. A matching casing or connector does not make a used security module ready to fit.

Wet carpet needs prompt attention

Fix the leak as well

On the 986 Boxster, the alarm and central-locking electronics beneath the driver’s seat are vulnerable to water collecting under the carpet. The top surface can feel dry while the underlay stays wet.

  • Trace the entry point. Roof drainage, seals and previous water entry need checking before repaired electronics go back into the same damp area.
  • Assess hidden damage. Connector pins, wiring joints and the circuit board may have corrosion beyond the visible water mark.
  • Choose a durable repair. Cleaning alone may not restore damaged tracks or components. Widespread corrosion can make replacement the sensible option.

If the cabin is wet and electrical functions are failing, avoid repeated start attempts and call us. Tell us whether the car can be secured and moved so we can arrange suitable collection.

Which functions are affected?

A useful description helps us prepare for the visit. Note when the fault happens and whether it began after rain, storage, battery work or a new key.

Alarm sounds when parked
Entry switches, interior monitoring, tilt sensing where fitted, the siren and voltage supply can trigger false alarms. Available trigger history and live inputs help identify the cause.
Locking is inconsistent
A door latch, bonnet or boot switch, remote signal or wiring fault may leave the car reporting an open entry. Tell us whether one door or the whole car is affected.
Battery drains overnight
A module or connected device may stay awake after locking. Current-draw testing distinguishes that from a weak battery; both problems can exist together.
Key or starting trouble
Bring both keys where available. Remote locking and engine-start authorisation are related but different functions. One failed remote does not prove the alarm module has failed.

For a damaged remote or a problem with one key, see Boxster key repair. A confirmed start-authorisation fault is covered by our Boxster immobilizer service.

Before ordering a replacement

Match the unit to your Boxster

A Boxster model badge is not enough to select security electronics. We check the VIN, module label, hardware version and supported programming requirements before agreeing a replacement.

If you already bought a used unit, send a clear label photograph and keep the original. We confirm whether adaptation is supported before arranging installation; some donor units are unsuitable.

We work to restore the car’s normal security functions. Module coding and key preparation are quoted with the repair when needed.

986 Boxster
The central-locking unit may also be described as the alarm or immobilizer module. Labels such as M531 and M535 must be checked against the specific car; they are not interchangeable shopping descriptions.
987 Boxster
Confirm the year, fitted equipment and actual module. Do not assume the 986 unit, location or repair method applies simply because the symptoms sound similar.
981 and 718 / 982
Later cars need their own body/security-system checks and compatible replacement parts. We confirm the supported setup for the exact vehicle before ordering or coding.

From approved repair to handover

  1. 01

    Agree the work

Review the fault, repair or replacement choice, full price and expected completion time. Additional work is discussed before it proceeds.

  2. 02

    Repair and set up

Complete the agreed electrical work, refit the unit and perform the supported coding or configuration required for that car.

  3. 03

    Check everyday functions

Recheck locking, unlocking, alarm operation and the keys supplied. Where relevant, verify starting, fault memory and the car’s sleep-current behaviour.

How long does it take?

Allow several working days for module assessment, repair and vehicle checks. A simple input fault can be quicker; intermittent battery drain may need an overnight observation period. We confirm the turnaround after the initial assessment.

What can extend the visit?

Wet underlay, leak repairs, extensive corrosion and an ordered replacement add time. Ask us to confirm both the parts arrival and the expected handover date before arranging collection.

Independent Porsche care

Book with our Al Quoz team

PorscheGarage.ae is operated by AMF Auto Services LLC at Warehouse 39, Al Quoz 4, Dubai. We are an independent workshop, not an authorised Porsche dealer.

Collection can be arranged subject to workshop availability and the vehicle’s condition. Tell us its location, whether it starts and whether it can be secured so the team can confirm the suitable collection method.

Bring every available key and details of previous alarm, battery or water-damage work. A short video of the fault is useful, especially when it comes and goes.

Boxster alarm repair questions

Does every false alarm need a new control unit?

No. A switch, latch, siren, connector, weak battery or another input can cause the same complaint. We identify the cause and quote that repair. The module is replaced only when its condition or compatibility makes that the appropriate option.

Can a water-damaged Boxster alarm module be saved?

It depends on the extent of corrosion and whether the electronics and stored data remain usable. Local damage may be repairable; extensive corrosion can require replacement. Drying the carpet or cleaning the board alone does not establish that the repair will last.

Will a used alarm unit work without programming?

Do not assume so. The exact part, vehicle-specific security data and supported adaptation method matter. Send the replacement label and keep the original module available so compatibility can be assessed before installation.

Are alarm and immobilizer faults the same thing?

Not always. On some Boxsters the central-locking, alarm and start-authorisation functions are closely connected. A remote that will not unlock the car can still be a key-only problem. Tell us separately whether it locks, whether the starter turns and whether the engine starts.

Do you need both keys?

Bring all available keys so their behaviour can be compared and checked after the work. If you only have one, tell us when booking. Replacement keys and separate key repairs are quoted individually.

Can I drive with an alarm fault?

If the car starts and drives normally, call to discuss the specific fault and whether it can be safely secured. With wet electronics, repeated battery failure, an electrical smell or unreliable starting, arrange assistance instead of repeated attempts to get it going.

Is coding included in the replacement price?

The replacement guide includes the supported setup needed for the quoted unit. Your written quotation confirms the part, fitting, coding or data preparation and final total including 5% VAT. New keys, another control unit or additional wiring repairs are separate unless listed.

Can you collect a Boxster that will not start?

Contact us with the location, model year and symptoms. Collection availability and the appropriate transport method are confirmed separately for a non-running or unsecured car.
