Know what costs extra
Housing opening and resealing, a new lens cover, wiring damage, broken mounts, replacement ballasts or LED drivers, and coding are separate unless listed in the quote. A full headlamp can cost several thousand dirhams for the part alone, so a bulb-repair price is not a complete-unit price.
Choose with the total in view
Ask whether a replacement includes its bulbs and electronics or is a bare housing. We confirm the side, part number, parts condition, fitting, beam adjustment and any coding before you approve it. A cheaper used lamp can become expensive if its modules are missing.
Planning times: a straightforward bulb job may take 30–90 minutes; a complete lamp fitting and checks may take 2–4 hours once the part is available. Opening, drying or resealing can require 1–2 days or longer for curing and verification. Parts sourcing can extend collection time.
Match the lamp to your Boxster
The year and model badge are a starting point. The fitted lighting option, left or right side, market specification and complete part number decide which replacement will work.
- Halogen
- Replaceable bulbs are used in applicable earlier and standard lighting packages. Match the specified bulb type and wattage; a different light source is not automatically an upgrade.
- Xenon and bi-xenon
- The HID bulb and ballast perform different jobs. A failed bulb may be replaced without renewing the housing; a ballast or supply fault needs its own repair.
- LED and adaptive options
- Where fitted, LED electronics and adaptive-light functions must match the car. A daytime-running-light fault does not always mean the dipped-beam light source has failed.
Boxster S, GTS and Spyder specifications vary. A VIN helps identify factory equipment, while the lamp label and installed wiring reveal previous replacements or conversions. Mention any lighting modifications when booking.
Repair the fault, keep sound parts
A failed light does not automatically make the entire headlamp unusable. We explain whether a component repair is worthwhile and when replacing the assembly is the more dependable choice.
When repair makes sense
A worn bulb, repairable electrical connection, serviceable control-unit fault or external lens haze can often be addressed separately. The housing, reflector and mounting points need to remain suitable for continued use.
Intermittent flickering may involve the bulb, ballast, connector or power supply. Testing those items avoids replacing a working housing and leaving the actual problem behind.
When a new lamp helps
Extensive internal damage, a badly cracked housing, unreliable mounting or damaged non-serviceable optics may justify replacement. A lamp that will not hold its beam setting needs more than cosmetic attention.
For impact damage, we also check the mounting area. A replacement headlamp must sit securely and align with the surrounding bodywork before the beam can be set correctly.
Cloudy outside or wet inside?
Surface haze can be restored
Sun exposure and worn protective coating can cloud a plastic lens. Suitable external restoration removes surface deterioration and restores protection. It cannot fix internal reflector damage, deep cracking or failed electronics.
Persistent water needs a repair
A light mist that clears can be a normal response to temperature and humidity. Persistent droplets, pooling water or repeated fogging accompanied by a lighting fault deserve attention. We check covers, seals, vents and the housing rather than simply drying the lamp and returning it.
Sealing over ventilation openings can create another problem. If opening the housing is appropriate, the quotation should include the work needed to restore its seal. Corroded connectors or modules may need separate repair.
New, supplier or used?
Compare the actual lamp you are buying, including its condition and electronics. “Fits Boxster” is not enough to establish compatibility.
A Genuine replacement offers the Porsche-labelled application. An established supplier part can be suitable when its specification matches. An inspected used lamp may reduce cost, but needs a clear return agreement and checks for water damage, broken tabs and previous repairs.
We do not assume that a lamp from a different market has the correct beam pattern for UAE roads. Check this before purchasing an imported unit, even when the connector and outer shape appear identical.
- Included parts
- Confirm whether the price covers the housing only, bulbs, ballast, LED driver and any adaptive-light electronics.
- Transferable modules
- Existing electronics can sometimes transfer to a compatible housing if they are serviceable. Water-damaged components should not be reused simply to lower the quote.
- Coding and setup
- A bulb swap and a control-unit replacement have different requirements. Confirm any programming or basic settings before fitting.
- Warranty
- Get the coverage for the chosen parts and work in writing. New and used parts should not be assumed to carry identical terms.
Correct light, correctly aimed
A bright lamp aimed too high creates glare; one aimed too low limits the view ahead. Secure fitting and beam adjustment are part of completing an assembly replacement.

Boxster headlight questions
Do I need a complete headlamp or just a bulb?
A failed replaceable bulb does not normally require a complete housing. The answer changes if the fault is in the ballast, LED electronics, wiring or non-serviceable internal components. We identify the failed part and explain the available repair before quoting a complete unit.
Why is a full headlamp quoted separately?
Complete lamps vary substantially by generation, lighting option, condition and included electronics. A bare housing and a fully equipped assembly are different purchases. The quote identifies the exact part, fitting, beam adjustment, any coding and VAT; it may exceed the component-repair estimates above.
Should both headlights be replaced together?
Not automatically. One damaged assembly can be replaced when a compatible unit is available and the other side is serviceable. Older bulbs can differ in colour and output, so replacing a pair may be worth discussing. We assess matching and condition instead of automatically quoting two assemblies.
Can you fit LED bulbs to my halogen Boxster?
Only consider a conversion after checking the lamp design, vehicle compatibility, beam pattern and applicable approval requirements. A physically fitting LED bulb does not prove that it will produce a suitable road beam. We do not promise universal LED, Matrix LED or laser conversions for Boxster models.
Does a PDLS warning mean the bulb has failed?
No. Porsche Dynamic Light System faults can involve levelling, movement, a control unit, wiring or communication. The exact warning and fitted equipment guide the checks. Replacing a bulb alone may leave the warning and adaptive-light fault unresolved.
Can condensation disappear without replacing the lamp?
A light temporary mist can clear as conditions change. Persistent droplets, pooled water, corrosion or repeated lighting faults need a check of the seals, covers, ventilation and housing. A lens polish treats the outside surface and will not repair internal water ingress.
Is it safe to change a xenon bulb myself?
Xenon systems use high voltage and require the correct isolation and handling procedures. Leave bulb, ballast and internal electrical work to a competent technician. You can safely note the dashboard wording and take an exterior photograph for your enquiry.
What should I send for a quote?
Send the model year, which headlamp is affected and a description or photo of the problem. Add the VIN or a readable part-label photo if readily available, plus details of previous upgrades. Do not dismantle the lamp just to request a price. Avoid driving at night or in poor visibility with inadequate lighting.
